POSITION TITLE: Lead Application Technician

Basic Function:
Application and performance testing to be utilized for both the development and review of NCP Coatings, Inc. products as well as to review competitive products, equipment, and procedures.  Must have knowledge of paint application equipment and be able to provide product, application and process support at customer facilities. This position also requires the maintenance of a safe work environment as well as all required equipment.

Reporting Relationship:
This position reports directly to the Technical Director and correlating relationships with any involved personnel in Lab, QC and Sales.

Job Requirements:
Job requirements include these minimum qualifications to accomplish essential duties of this position.

  • A Bachelors degree desirable or three to five years of experience.
  • Language skills must include the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.  Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, training and procedure manuals.
  • Mathematical skills include the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages area, circumference and volume.  Must possess position related mathematical skills which enable this position to effectively communicate with appropriate technical departments.
  • Organizational skills must include the ability to document and track on going projects \both in the facility and out in the field (as required) and report on these projects in a timely fashion via written report to the Technical Director.  Like wise these reports must be made available to the Management Team as required. 
  • Reasoning abilities which allow this position to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and deliver valid conclusions in a constructive manner, directly to the Technical Director.  Like wise this information must be made available to the Management Team as required.
  • Licenses, Certificates, Registrations that are required include a valid drivers license.  Membership in NACE, SSPC or certification in either is preferred but not necessary.
  • Other required skills and abilities include:  The ability to operate specific equipment such as, spray equipment and various application methods, specific computer software such as, but not limited to, MS Office and Lotus Notes.  Must be familiar with special terminology such as, but not limited to, specific terms related to the coatings industry.
  • Physical requirements require the following:  1. Body positions to be used approximately the following amounts of time.  Standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balance, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching with hands and arms approximately one third of the time.  Talking, listening, (hearing), use of hands to finger, handling or feeling approximately one to two thirds of the time.  2. Body senses with regards to vision include close vision clear at 20” or less.  Distant vision clear to 20’ or more.  Color vision, ability to identify  and distinguish colors.  Peripheral vision, ability to observe an area that can be seen up, down or to the left and or right while the eyes are fixed on a given point.  Depth spatial relationships. Ability to adjust focus, ability to adjust eyes to bring an object into focus.  3. Body movements require the following amounts to be lifted or moved.  Up to 10 pounds one to two thirds of the time.  Up to 100 pounds up to one third of the time.  More than 100 pounds occasionally.  4. Work environment includes exposure to the following conditions.  Work near moving mechanical parts, work in lab and customer facility up to two thirds of the time.  Extreme cold, heat work with explosives, risk of radiation, and vibration, none.  Fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals one to two thirds of the time.  5.  Noise, typical work environment, loud noise.    

Authority Limitations:
To perform only those projects as directed by the Technical Director and to report results and solutions directly to Technical Director and to direct as required an Application Technician to facilitate such project results.  Reports will also be required to be reported to the Management Team when required. Any additional equipment required to facilitate this position must first be presented to and be approved by the Management Team. 

Responsibilities/ Duties:
Providing required reports as specified above directly to Technical Director, providing direction as required to an Application Technician, maintenance of all of the Mishawaka facilities spray and lab equipment, travel to customers for application support only as specified by the Technical Director and performance of required product testing only as directed by the Technical Director.  This position must also provide a weekly time sheet per each project and a project progress summary report via email due by noon on Monday of the following week to the Technical Director.  Any additional responsibilities and duties must first be approved by Technical Director prior to implementation.

Performance Criteria:
Individual must perform all of the above tasks as specified above in an organized and timely fashion.  All future reviews will be based solely on the completion and performance of the above required tasks.
